Destined To Attend Peace Starts With Me

Continuing our series of testimonies about “Peace Starts With Me,” two Unificationists share about their destined path to see True Parents at the Garden.

KYOKO TAIRA

It was not possible to be at Madison square garden without spiritual guidance.  When I heard that True Mother was coming to New York, I had already made up my mind that I was not going to the event.  After I went to a Japanese workshop in January in Las Vegas, I didn’t want to incur any further debt until I had recovered financially.

On June 27, however, as I was reading the Chambumo Gyeong it was as if someone was speaking to me to let me know that I must go to this event.  From then on, I was on a mission, trying to go to Madison Square Garden. Then, numerous people helped me so that I could come to New York and see True Mother.

I knew absolutely nothing about New York. I was able to catch the bus from LaGuardia airport and ride the subway downtown to the Macy’s near Madison Square Garden.  What a once-in-a-lifetime experience for me. I felt as if the angels were helping me get where I need to be. I don’t know how to explain what I felt.  I just knew that this must be the spiritual realm helping me, so I could come and see True Mother.

It was truly an honor to be at Madison Square Garden. True Parents showed enormous love. Thank you, Heavenly Parents, True Parents, and our only begotten daughter, our True Mother.

MOE LEHRER

It was a pleasure for my family to be able to travel from Maryland to attend True Mother’s speech. Notably, my husband’s sister attended – she is not a Unificationist. We thought to invite her because she lives in Brooklyn. At first she declined, saying that it is difficult for her to sit still for long periods of time.

She has been a regular smoker (and drinker) all her life. She initially said that she would meet us and hang around with us for a while and skip the speech. Then later she changed her mind and said that she would come if we could get seated together with me, my husband, and our twin daughters.  We had already bought four tickets. So what we had to do was buy five new tickets and return the four that we had bought. Luckily, we were able to do that in time.

She attended the speech and had a great time. We were so surprised to hear her refer to True Mother as “Mother Moon.” Combined with the beautiful gathering of many different kinds of people, the amazing music and worship, and True Mother’s speech, this Madison Square Garden brought so much hope for the future for America and for my family.

Over 500 Youth Share Amazing Weekend With True Mother

~from familyfed.org

From July 14 to 16, over 500 youth and young adults from all around the nation and the world enjoyed a fulfilling weekend in which they connected with one another, True Parents, and True Parents’ family, learning the meaning of hyojeong, a heart of filial piety.

On Friday, July 14, the Hyojeong Youth Weekend kicked off with dance practice for a performance of “Mujogeon (Unconditionally)” for True Mother’s “Peace Starts With Me” speech at Madison Square Garden, followed by an intimate discussion with Family Federation for World Peace and Unification (FFWPU) International President, Sun Jin Moon. Her honesty and grace in helping the young Unificationists—many who have never met True Mother—understand True Mother’s heart also helped the youth understand themselves. Peace Starts With Me Interfaith Celebration

True Parents’ legacy of peace and interfaith unity once again hit the illustrious venue of Madison Square Garden on July 15 for the Peace Starts With Me interfaith gathering. Co-sponsored by FFWPU, the Universal Peace Federation (UPF), Women’s Federation for World Peace (WFWP), and the American Clergy Leadership Conference (ACLC), the program made a call for peace starting with ourselves and expanding outward into our communities, the nation and the world.

The stadium was nearly full with guests hailing from a wide variety of national, racial, and religious backgrounds, bringing a unique beauty to the praise and worship that significantly highlighted the event. Among the participants were the 2,000 Voice Choir, 200 Praise Dancers, and 600 youth and young adults from the Hyojeong weekend workshop.

The program embraced the diversity of its audience from the start, with Archbishop George Augustus Stallings, Jr., National Co-Chair of the American Clergy Leadership Conference (ACLC) and the emcee of the event, introducing groups and visitors from a variety of faith groups, churches, organizations, and regions, as well as the Hyojeong Youth. He then fired up the audience with roaring praise for God.

Pastor Paula White-Cain then continued the theme of Peace Starts With Me, reminding those in the audience, “We’re not waiting for change; we bring change.” She spoke powerfully and eloquently on the nature of God as our parent who wants to dwell with us and change the world through us.

FFWPU International Vice President Dr. Ki Hoon Kim highlighted the importance of unity in America: “Mother Moon pointed out what our problem is today. More than anything else, we as Americans need God and True Parents for the sake of God’s nation. We must come together and build this country, America.”

FFWPU USA President Dr. Michael Balcomb then read proclamations from elected officials, including the official announcement that July 15, starting this year, is Peace Starts With Me Day in the borough of Brooklyn.

Pastor T.L. Barrett, the Senior Pastor of the Life Center Church of God in Christ in Chicago, first shared about the role True Mother has played in restoring his own marriage, and then emphasized that she is just as meaningful to every individual in the room. “No one is working harder with a deeper parental heart than Rev. Sun Myung Moon and Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon,” said Pastor T.L. Barrett. “They teach to embrace your own religion, embrace others, and live as one family… Heaven is celebrating the presence of all religions here today.

With Pastor Barrett’s moving introduction, True Mother then took the stage and shared the keynote message, speaking about the history of God’s Providence, the world’s dire need for true parents who can guide us to live as true brothers and sisters, and how America can be a leader in restoring peace of earth, starting with each of us. She closed with a hopeful call to action, that if we practice true love everywhere we go, shine our light to the world, and live for the sake of others, God’s peaceful home on earth is not far away.

Congresswoman Yvette D. Clarke, a member of the New York City Council and U.S. House of Representatives, recited words from Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. to highlight the need to live for the sake of others. “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere,” Congresswoman Clarke reminded the audience. She continued, “What affects anyone directly affects us all indirectly.” She ultimately encouraged those in the audience to rededicate to the call to start and create peace on this earth.

Throughout these inspirational messages, everyone in the audience glorified God through music and dance, with powerful performances from Grammy-award winners Bishop Hezekiah Walker and Yolanda Adams, Shamira Mighty, and FFWPU’s Apple Heaven United, a conjunction of the original Apple Heaven band from Korea and Apple Heaven U.S.A. The entire stadium stood up, clapping, dancing, and singing along as they proclaimed, “Every praise is to our God” and many more songs of worship. The variety of musical genres and cultures represented in the musical performances again displayed the beauty of interfaith and intercultural oneness before God.

Victory Celebration & Youth Gathering With True Mother

On July 16, following the July 15 interfaith Peace Starts With Me celebration at Madison Square Garden, leaders and 600 youth and young adults celebrated the successful event with True Mother at East Garden.

True Mother gave an intimate talk outside East Garden on this sunny summer morning, with the participants of the Hyojeong Youth workshop circled around her. Afterward, the youth performed the dance to Mujogeon (Unconditional) that they had performed at the Garden one day prior.

After a warm farewell to True Mother from all the youth, they enjoyed a lunch which True Mother so generously provided. The celebration then moved to the nearby Belvedere, where a Sunday Service was held for the remainder of the morning.

Stay tuned for more about the Hyojeong Youth workshop, coming soon at familyfed.org! Continue reading Victory Celebration & Youth Gathering With True Mother
